With Tiger Woods playing the weekend there for the first time since 2005, the Los Angeles Open hit a multi-year ratings high.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Los Angeles Open earned a 2.6 rating and 4.06 million viewers on CBS last Sunday, up 30% in ratings and 36% in viewership from last year (2.0, 3.00M) and up 30% and 33% respectively from 2017 (2.0, 3.04M).
Due to a number of weather delays, play did not conclude during the CBS telecast window. Even so, the 2.6 rating is the highest for any round of the tournament since 2012, when Phil Mickelson lost in a playoff (4.2).
Bonus coverage on Golf Channel had a 1.0 and 1.65 million, down from the network’s Pebble Beach bonus coverage a week earlier (1.2, 1.86M).
On Saturday, CBS scored a 1.6 and 2.28 million for second round coverage — up a tick in ratings and 4% in viewership from last year (1.5, 2.19M) and up a tick and 2% respectively from 2017 (1.5, 2.24M). Golf Channel scored a 0.6 and 894,000 for the start of third round play that evening, which included Woods’ surge up the leaderboard.
Lead-in coverage on Golf Channel had a 0.7 (+28%) and 1.06 million (+28%) on Saturday and a 1.0 (+69%) and 1.54 million (+74%) on Sunday.
