Patriots-Eagles delivered the highest overnight rating of the NFL season. Also: the latest numbers for the NBA and the CONCACAF Nations League.
Pats-Eagles scores season-high overnight
Sunday’s NFL national window (Patriots-Eagles in 93% of markets) averaged a 16.2 overnight rating on CBS, the highest of the season. The previous high was a 15.9 for the Week 1 national window on FOX (mostly Giants-Cowboys).
Overnights increased 29% from a 12.6 both last year (mostly Eagles-Saints) and 2017 (mostly Patriots-Raiders).
Earlier in the day, regional action featuring Texans-Ravens averaged an 8.0 (-12%). The competing FOX singleheader (mostly Cowboys-Lions) averaged a 10.4 (+12%).
Viewership up for depleted Warriors on ESPN
Celtics-Warriors averaged 1.42 million viewers on the latest edition of ESPN NBA Friday, up 5% from Celtics-Jazz in an earlier window last year (1.35M). Viewership has increased for two of the Warriors’ four games on ESPN or TNT this season.
Earlier in the night, Jazz-Grizzlies had 1.09 million. There was no comparable window last year, but viewership fell 32% from Bucks-Spurs in a later window two years ago (1.60M). Ratings were not immediately available for Friday’s games.
Two million for Mexico-Panama Friday night
Friday’s Mexico-Panama CONCACAF Nations League match averaged 2.0 million viewers across Univision and TUDN, marking El Tri’s third-largest audience this year, outside of the Gold Cup (10 telecasts). Mexico’s September friendlies against the United States (2.68M) and Argentina (2.45M) hold the top two spots.
Including the Gold Cup, it ranks eighth out of Mexico’s sixteen matches this year.
Earlier in the night, United States-Canada averaged 500,000 on UniMás and 352,000 on ESPN2.
