Despite a double-digit increase in viewership, Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Michigan still put up fairly mediocre numbers on TNT.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 earned a 2.9 U.S. rating and 4.890 million viewers on TNT Sunday afternoon, flat in ratings and up 13% in viewership from last year (2.9, 4.333M), but down 12% and 4%, respectively, from 2009 (3.3, 5.118M).
The rating is tied as the lowest for the race since at least 1996, matching only last year.
Overall, Sunday’s race ranks as the lowest rated, least-viewed NASCAR Sprint Cup telecast of the season (15 telecasts), and the first to dip below a 3.0 rating.
That said, the race still did well relative to its competition, finishing as the sixth-most viewed program of the week on cable.
Through two races, NASCAR on TNT is up 1% in viewership compared to last year.
