A new name for Versus is still expected sometime in the next few months, but NBC Sports Group officials have reportedly not yet settled on a new name for the network.
Sports Business Journal reported Monday that NBC Sports Group will announce a new name for Versus “in late summer or early fall,” a bit behind the original timeline set forth by former chief Dick Ebersol.
In an April news conference, Ebersol told reporters that a new name for Versus was “no more than 90 days away,” putting the network’s re-branding on pace for mid-July.
NBC officials “have not settled on the name,” though as previously stated by Ebersol, it will “almost certainly will carry the NBC Sports brand” (sportsbusinessdaily.com, 6/27).
Versus will reportedly begin using the new name by January 1.
