NBC Sports Network, which will still be known as Versus through the first three months of the season, has added a new night of exclusive NHL action as part of a significantly expanded schedule.
Starting this season, NBC Sports Network will televise exclusive, weekly NHL games on Wednesday nights and some Sunday nights, adding to the existing slate of Monday and Tuesday night games.
The Wednesday games will serve as a “Game of the Week,” starting with Bruins/Hurricanes on October 12.
The new nights are part of an expanded slate of over 90 NHL telecasts.
NBCSN opens the season with an October 6 doubleheader, featuring Bruins/Flyers followed by Penguins/Canucks. The network’s final NHL telecast as ‘Versus’ will be Rangers/Capitals on December 28, with the first ‘NBC Sports Network’ telecast being Sharks/Canucks on January 2.
As part of its new Sunday night slate, NBCSN will air the ‘flex schedule’ game not chosen by NBC during the last several weeks of the season. For example, on April 1, NBC will choose between Bruins/Rangers or Flyers/Penguins for its 12:30 PM ET game. The game not chosen by NBC would air on NBCSN at 7:30 PM.
Versus/NBCSN will also air a new half-hour studio show, NHL Live, before and after all NHL telecasts.
