The voice of college basketball is returning to the airwaves.
ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale has “been cleared to return to broadcasting” after throat surgery sidelined him in December. Appropriately, Vitale will call his first game when Duke takes on rival North Carolina on February 6.
Not surprisingly, the locquatious Vitale found it difficult to stay quiet for the past three weeks. “I was in tears when he asked me to speak my first words since the surgery. … When he had me count to 10, I was so relieved.”
The 68-year-old Vitale had never missed a scheduled ESPN assignment before the surgery.
