How to Watch the French Open

For the second-straight year, the French Open airs on the TNT Sports networks of TNT and truTV and the streaming service HBO Max. Additional coverage will air Tennis Channel.

The bulk of live coverage, including the singles finals, will air on TNT. Coverage on truTV will include a daily whiparound show during the first week of play (titled “The Rally at Roland-Garros”). HBO Max will have coverage of all matches played at Roland-Garros.

Paulsen,
quick question on today’s French Open tennis coverage. Is there anywhere you can stream this? Today has an epic quarterfinal match between Djokovic and Nadal starting around 2:30PM et. I know this is not on ESPN. And, I dont have access to the linear tennis channel during the day. Is there any site that will stream this match? Thank you in advance!

The confusion and complication of watching tennis on the regular channels has destroyed the popularity of tennis in the U.S.. I remember younger days when everyone new and followed tennis and were enthusiastic over matches mostly because the major tournament were on national TV and you didn’t have all the greedy designer channels to hunt down matches. I’m like F you I’ll just go out and play some tennis.

  TennisChannel is especially bad as they not only require a full year upfront pay of $100+ but on top of that you cannot even watch prime time matches as they require you to have a cable tv premium subscription package. Not even replays you’ll get of the main matches. Everyone should boycott those scammers.

NBC’s coverage of the French Open sucked!!!. Never had it been this bad. Understanding the time difference, I was hoping to see a taped match of Nadal and Federer. It was totally spoiled when the commentators told us who won. The scores were given before we got to watch anything. John McEnroe was the only good thing about it. Did not see any live matches before the finals. No decent taped matches, bits and pieces only. Where is ESPN?

  ESPN and ATP’s tennistv are the only ones in the US who know how to broadcast tennis. The rest is trash. Too bad these tournaments keep on selling coverage to those trash channels like TC and NBC because of a few extra bucks.

I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing any French Open this year because I choose to no longer subscribe to Tennis Channel in any form, and tape-delayed matches on NBC are not worth my time. For me, the most viable option for watching tennis these days is TennisTV aka ATP TV streaming, and boy, do I love it. It’s only men’s matches and doesn’t show any majors, but it does show almost every match of every other tournament, including the Master 1000s. Even for the headline matches you usually have a choice to watch with or without commentary, and always without commercials. ESPN is pretty decent during slam weeks, despite Chris Fowler’s penchant in the biggest matches to go off on endless tangents, often completely disregarding what’s happening on the court. When he starts up, or when the Mac brothers together go off on one of their “bro” tears, I just press the mute button. Tennis Channel, on the other hand, really is only about commentary. When I used to subscribe I sometimes saw them cut away from a crucial, exciting tiebreak and switch to a press box interview of some player who just won a match. And then the commentators would drone on and on while we could and should actually be WATCHING TENNIS! Why is it so hard to get tennis programming right?

  Subscribe to YouTube Live. It’s $50 month and you can watch live sports. If you have a newer smart TV you can watch directly or buy chrome cast and you can mirror it from your smart phone.

VERY VERY disappointed in NBC TENNIS coverage. I waited all year for tennis to start up to a total let down. After reading all the comments above…….afraid to even try and pay extra for 2 weeks more on the Tennis Channel. Tennis is the only sport I’ve enjoyed watching every year. I’m 68 almost 69 years old, on a fixed income and disabled. I can’t afford to pay EXTRA, sad to say! I just don’t understand all the GREED in this world anymore. Little things like this is exactly why you have people going off the deep end and going on rampages and killing people………….all because of GREED. Come on you guys, you’d do well to get your ACTS together. I think you will lose business over crap like this!

  I totally agree with Victoria above. I am 71+ and in the same situation. I adore tennis but I had to cancel the Tennis Channel as it was too expensive to have it. I can only catch it on NBC and they only put the big matches on…I miss all the other matches. Thank you, Greedy people, for your so-called “wisdom” (Not!)

  I totally agree, being a senior myself. I can no longer afford the astronomical fees for cable tv much less having to pay even more to watch tennis. Pardon the pun, but it is a RACKET!!! I never watch NBC, nothing worth watching! I would like to trade NBC for the tennis channel any day of the week.

    That’s not what she said. She said GREED, yes in capital letters as she put it, is causing people to go the deep end. People are spoiled in the USA growing up believing in the american dream only to realize it’s actually a nightmare these days. Greed has indeed a lot to do with it. In the specific case of tennis, if you want to watch all matches you have to pay multiple outlets to get it. Ridiculous, and it’s done so because of that extra dime for the tournament.

  I agree with your comments above. Things were better when we had free networks. Now greed has taken over. This patchwork system people have switched to because cable has gotten so overpriced – it is not easy for older people to navigate, and it too just gets pricier. If older folks are forced to cut the cord, they will just give up because they know the difference. Streaming is not real TV. You barely know when something is live. I have The Tennis Channel but the info. doesn’t tell you if it’s a doubles final, etc. Yesterday we had the men’s final real time on TTN and it was delayed on NBC. Disgraceful!

  I’m sorry you’re being denied something you’ve enjoyed for so many years. My husband and I are in a similar position. They should offer specials for seniors, although everyone should be able to watch the important tournaments. But we have earned this! It’s astonishing how little regard US society has for seniors. Yes, there are some breaks, but it’s not consistent. This is an example that could easily be instituted if anyone cared or realized that the simple pleasures that add so much to our lives are within reach. So, why doesn’t HBO or some entity that wants to create goodwill make sure seniors and other worthy groups have access to tennis and perhaps other events?

The Tennis channel has taken all of the fun from watching the French Open.There is a reason that Nadal’s matches are always sold out..Watching him is a lot of fun. For some reason the Tennis Channel has decided not to show any of his matches. Instead they fill up the time watching matches that do you go on forever and the comments that they make are boring boring ! Is it possible to use a split screen? I used to look forward to this every year and now it’s nothing but frustration. I guess tennis channel wants me to watch it from my iPad or my computer for an extra hundred dollars a year. I really dislike the tennis channel.

Whe did DirecTV show the early matches of the French Open on channels 701-706 then when they get to the quarters… NOTHING!! No coverage of the most important matches, (unless you buy tennis channel for q week???

Why wasn’t the Nadal match shown the past two days he played? Courier is so anti Nadal and he doesn’t shut up. Get your act together! Justin Gimelstob with all his problems was a much better commentator.

VERY little tennis coverage on NBC and ESPN or other major channel – all other sport we are drowning in . . . golf, basketball , football, hockey etc etc . . . all hours and everyday . Tennis fans are forced to pay for coverage . The French Open is being played now but little to no coverage on NBC this week ..What is wrong with Tennis . . . ..

Oh well, they (TV producers, Programmers, Tennis financial magnates) figure they are protecting themselves financially. It used to be all about the joy of sports and broadcasting to sports fans. But when sports has become a money maker with your player grossing millions of dollars, the dynamics of “sports” changes. There are no team owners of tennis like there are in football, soccer and basketball. So they gotta find a way to make money in tennis, that is. Make you pay to watch or by cable.

Having to pay my opinion cable TV for umpteen years, an can’t see my favorite sport, tennis, I’ll have to think about a new t.v, venue. It’s not like they are playing, everyday all year, like baseball. Or spanise
station’s that I pay for an don’t watch. I’m beinging taken. .if you want to make money, spend some. Tennis customer. Irate.

Love tennis and glad we have some matches on NBC. However, less ADVERTISING and LESS COMMENTS (except John Mac) during the tennis play would make the matches much nicer for us to watch-we could even be able to hear the tennis ball when hit, player comments etc…not at all interested in wearing out our tv mute button..
