The Ratings Game: Team USA Hoops Victory Draws Fewer Than 900,000 Viewers


Recent sports TV ratings news, including ratings for the FIBA World Championship gold medal game and college football numbers on ESPN and ESPN2.

  • Sunday’s USA/Turkey FIBA World Championship gold medal game drew a 0.62 U.S. rating and 886,000 viewers on ESPN, well below the network’s average for 2009-10 regular season NBA games (1.1, 1.561 mil). The telecast nearly doubled Game 1 of the Dream/Storm WNBA Finals on ABC, which aired in virtually the same timeslot (0.33, 450,000). (ESPN)
  • ESPN2 drew a 2.2 U.S. rating and 3.490 million viewers for Georgia/South Carolina last Saturday afternoon, up 38% in ratings and 28% in viewership from the same matchup on the comparable weekend last year — which also aired on ESPN2, but in primetime (1.6, 2.729 mil). Saturday night, Oregon/Tennessee drew a 1.6 and 2.709 million on ESPN2, even with last year’s aforementioned South Carolina/Georgia game. (Sports Business Daily)
  • Other college football ratings from last weekend: Friday’s West Virginia/Marshall game drew a 2.2 U.S. rating and 3.375 million viewers on ESPN, while the UTEP/Houston nightcap drew a 1.2 and 1.750 million.
