- English Premier League Down Slightly on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes: Coverage of the English Premier League has averaged a 0.22 U.S. rating and 302,000 viewers on ESPN2 this season, down 4% in ratings and 7% in viewership from last year (0.23, 325K). Over on ESPN Deportes, EPL coverage has averaged a 0.04 U.S. rating and 50,000 viewers, up a tick in ratings but down 4% in viewership compared to last year (0.03, 52K). (ESPN)
- NBA Viewership Still Up Double-Digits on TNT: TNT averaged a 1.8 U.S. rating and 2.740 million viewers for regular season NBA coverage through last Thursday (21 telecasts), up 20% in ratings and 15% in viewership from last season (1.5, 2.377M, 38 telecasts), and up 50% in both measures compared to the 2009-10 season (1.2, 1.832M, 37 telecasts). Keep in mind the 2011-12 NBA season began on Christmas Day due to the owners’ five-month lockout of players, the fourth work stoppage in NBA history (all owner-imposed lockouts). Versus the comparable time period last season (December 30-February 17), this year’s coverage is up 29% in ratings and 25% in viewership. (Turner Sports)
- NBC Sports Network Not Lighting Up the Ratings: The newly rebranded NBC Sports Network averaged just 62,000 viewers per day in January, according to Sports Business Journal, down 21% from January of last year (78K). Corporate sibling The Golf Channel averaged more viewers during the month (81K), as did ESPNews (74K), NBA TV (88K), NFL Network (126K), and Speed Channel (142K). (Sports Business Journal)
