Airing directly opposite the top rated game of the season, college football still hit a season-high on FOX Saturday night.
The Southern Cal/Oregon college football game drew a 3.5 overnight rating on FOX Saturday night, up 106% from Kansas State/West Virginia two weeks ago (1.7), and up 94% from Southern Cal/Washington three weeks ago (1.8). FOX did not televise a primetime game last week due to the World Series.
The 3.5 overnight is the highest of the season for college football on FOX, surpassing the previous mark of 3.2 for West Virginia/Texas in week six.
Despite the season-high, USC/Oregon was no match for Alabama/Louisiana State on CBS. That game, pitting the #1 and #5 teams in the country, drew an overnight twice as large (7.0).
With that said, USC/Oregon easily defeated Oklahoma/Kansas State on ABC (1.9), the third time this season that FOX has topped ABC head-to-head in the overnights. On the previous two occasions, ABC came out ahead when the final ratings were released — but do not expect that to be the case this week.
Earlier Saturday, FOX drew a 1.0 overnight for TCU/West Virginia — down 23% from Texas Tech/Kansas State in the afternoon timeslot last week, and up 43% from Stanford/Cal two weeks ago.
