Notre Dame’s near upset at the hands of Pittsburgh helped NBC to a season-high overnight rating on Saturday.
The Pittsburgh/Notre Dame college football game drew a 4.3 overnight rating on NBC Saturday afternoon, up 207% from the network’s sixth Notre Dame telecast last year, against Maryland in primetime (1.4), and up 187% from the sixth telecast in 2010, against Tulsa (1.5).
The 4.3 overnight is the highest for a Notre Dame telecast on NBC since Michigan/Notre Dame in September 2010 (4.5), surpassing this year’s Michigan game, which aired in primetime (4.0). The multi-year high is especially impressive considering that Pittsburgh is not a high-profile opponent.
Overall, the 4.3 overnight is the sixth-highest college football overnight of the season, trailing only Florida/Georgia on CBS last week, LSU/Florida on CBS in Week 6 (4.7), Michigan/Alabama on ABC in week one (4.7), Notre Dame/Oklahoma on ABC last week (5.9), and Alabama/LSU on CBS Saturday night (7.0).
Pittsburgh/Notre Dame easily outdrew competing college football action on ABC (2.6), CBS (2.0) and FOX (1.0) Saturday afternoon.
Saturday’s Notre Dame game was the fifth straight on NBC to have an increase in overnights of at least 50%.
