A primetime mismatch drew terrible numbers for college football on FOX.
Last Saturday’s Baylor/Iowa State college football game drew a 0.8 final rating and 1.3 million viewers on FOX, down 27% in ratings and 29% in viewership from Arizona/Washington last year (1.1, 1.8M) and down 68% and 66%, respectively, from Texas/Oklahoma State in 2012 (2.5, 3.8M).
The 0.8 rating is the lowest ever for primetime college football on FOX, falling below the previous mark of 0.9 for Fresno State/USC earlier this season. The 0.8 is also very likely the lowest ever for primetime college football on broadcast television.
Iowa State entered the game with a 1-2 record and was blown out by 21 points.
Earlier in the day, FOX drew a 1.0 and 1.4 million for Stanford/Washington. There was no comparable telecast last year. It should be pointed out that Stanford/Washington was the featured game of the FOX doubleheader, hosting the network’s lead broadcast team of Gus Johnson and Charles Davis.
Over on Fox Sports 1, the top game of week five was a Thursday night clash between UCLA and Arizona State. The game had a 0.6 final rating and 883,000 viewers — up 200% in ratings and 262% in viewership from Iowa State/Tulsa last year (0.2, 244K).
