A relatively soft season for the SEC on CBS ended strong in the metered markets.
The Alabama/Florida SEC Championship Game earned an 8.3 overnight rating on CBS Saturday afternoon, up 8% from Alabama/Missouri last year (7.7) and down 5% from Auburn/Missouri in 2013 (8.7). The 8.3 is the fifth-highest overnight for the game since it moved to CBS in 2001.
The Crimson Tide have played in five of the six highest rated SEC title games on CBS in the metered markets, with 2013 the lone exception.
Per CBS, Saturday’s game had the highest college football overnight on any network this season. The high water mark entering the week was a 7.0 for Michigan State/Ohio State on ABC in week twelve. Overnights for the rest of the weekend’s games, including the Big Ten Championship, were not immediately available.
The strong performance capped a softer season for the SEC on CBS. Saturday marked just the fourth time in 14 weeks that CBS has earned the top college football overnight of the week, compared to nine such occurrences in 13 weeks last year.
Overnights peaked at a 9.4 from 7:30-8 PM ET.
