John McEnroe’s talk show once drew a 0.0 rating on CNBC. Stephon ‘Starbury’ Marbury will likely break that record: the New York Knicks point guard has signed on to host a 13-episode talk show on FSN — the network of I, Max and the Best Damn Sports Show Period.
Apparently, Marbury has major dirt on Kobe Bryant and Mark Cuban, because both will be guests on his “Stars on Stars” program. By the way, just as an aside, I’m wondering if the title of the show is meant to be ironic — especially considering that, outside of the 2001 NBA All Star Game, Marbury hasn’t done much for any team in his entire NBA career. That aside, Isiah Thomas will also be a guest on the program — meaning that the former Pistons’ great will have had roles in Stars on Stars, the CBA collapse, the mediocre ’01-’03 Pacers, the destruction of the Knicks, the attempted destruction of the Raptors and, of course, the destruction of NBA Showtime on NBC.
With his track record, look for Zeke to hold a major role in the Bush administration in the coming weeks. Back to Marbury, who describes both himself and his new venture:
“I just felt it would allow people to see my personality beyond the perception that’s written about basketball. People say I’m selfish. The numbers don’t show I’m selfish. I’ve never gotten a chance to defend myself as far as me as a person. So people have driven me to come up with an outlet of expression. I thought it would be a lot of fun. … It’s not a sports show as much as a lifestyle show … Hopefully I can show a different side of other people and a different side of me. It’s a conversation between two people who happen to be stars, talking about our experiences growing up and as far as everyday life.”
