- No surprise: the Super Bowl finishes with what will almost certainly be the highest rating of 2007 (barring some truly amazing results from American Idol or Grey’s Anatomy). According to the Sports Business Daily, the game drew a 42.4 rating with a 64 share, meaning that close to 50 percent of all television households tuned in, and well over 50 percent of all televisions turned on were tuned to the game.
- CBS’ ‘The Super Bowl Today’ drew more than four times the rating of the Pistons/Cavaliers NBA game on ABC (8.8 to 2.1).
- ABC’s Detroit Pistons/Cleveland Cavaliers game drew very disappointing ratings; the game drew a 2.1/5 overnight, even from 2006. The NBA’s marquee team, the Cavaliers, couldn’t outdo last year’s Rockets/Knicks game, even though it was in a better timeslot (2:30 this year versus 12:00 last year).
- Golf didn’t fare much better than the NBA. The PGA Tour FBR Open drew a 2.2 overnight without Tiger Woods on NBC.
- Most stunning rating of the weekend: taped figure skating outdrew Greg Oden and the Buckeyes; a two-hour tape of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships drew a 1.6 rating on ABC Sunday, while Buckeyes/Michigan State drew a 1.5 rating on CBS Saturday.
