In an almost unheard of move, CBS has kept its studio team in New York during the Final Four.
Nearly every television sports property with a studio show goes on-site for major events. Even low-rated events like the Stanley Cup Finals get the on-site studio show treatment. Generally, having the studio team at the site of the game adds to the “big event feel.”
This makes the decision by CBS to keep its college basketball studio team in New York for one of the biggest events in all of sports, the Final Four, seem dubious at best — especially considering that despite not having rights to the NCAA Tournament, ESPN is on-site for the Final Four.
This is nothing new for CBS. In January, The NFL Today studio team stayed in its New York studios for the AFC Championship Game.
