- After debuting the successful “Where Amazing Happens” ad campaign at the start of the season, the NBA has introduced a new campaign for the NBA Playoffs. The new ads feature star players in a split screen, with “half of each player?s face, [and] their voices synchronized to create a dramatic visual of a single player talking about the playoffs.” The first ad, featuring former teammates Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant, is an internet hit; there are at least nine YouTube copies of the ad, with over 100,000 combined views.
- The NBA and NHL have some positive attendance news to report. The NHL set an attendance record for the third straight season, as attendance rose 2% this season to an average of 17,265 per game. Meanwhile, the NBA saw its best March ever, as 4.2 million fans attended games during the month.
- Months before the NBA conducts its first ever outdoor game, the WNBA will have an outdoor showcase of its own. The New York Liberty will play the Indiana Fever at Arthur Ashe Stadium on July 19. The game is not currently scheduled to air on national television. In October, the NBA will also play a game at a tennis stadium; the Suns and Nuggets will square off in the preseason at Indian Wells.
