When CBS begins televising EliteXC bouts late this month, a familiar voice will be calling the action.
College basketball and NFL announcer Gus Johnson will be the play-by-play voice of CBS MMA coverage, which starts on May 31. Johnson, popular among fans for his boisterous calls, will be paired with analyst Frank Shamrock.
Johnson and Shamrock will also be joined by Mauro Ranallo, who hosts MMA coverage on Showtime, and Karyn Bryant, a reporter for the same network’s boxing coverage.
According to Newsday‘s Neil Best, Johnson has experience with combat sports, having studied “Kung Fu, boxing and most recently Jiu-Jitsu.”
