- Major League Soccer has seen a slight boost in viewership on ESPN2. The Sports Business Daily reports 13 MLS Primetime Thursday telecasts have averaged 279,000 viewers, up 8% from last year. Not surprisingly, the most viewed match of the season involved David Beckham‘s Los Angeles Galaxy; L.A./San Jose on April 3 drew 399,000 viewers. MLS telecasts on ESPN2 are averaging a 0.2 cable rating, even with last year.
- Through two weeks, WNBA telecasts on ESPN2 have seen significant increases in ratings and viewership. The first two WNBA Tuesday telecasts of the season averaged a 0.2 cable rating with 266,000 viewers, up 44% and 45% from last year. This is especially impressive considering ESPN2 has yet to televise a game involving new attraction Candace Parker.
- The Marlins and Reds may be near the bottom of Major League Baseball in attendance, but both teams attracted big audiences recently. The Marlins’ 12 inning loss to the Mets last Wednesday drew a 5.2 rating on FSN Florida, the highest for a Marlins telecast on the network since September of 2006 (also a game against the Mets). Meanwhile, the Reds’ loss to the Phillies last night drew a 10.2 rating on FSN Ohio, the fifth highest rating for a Reds telecast on the network in ten years.
