When it comes to politics, there is one thing many liberals and conservatives have in common: an astounding level of ignorance.
NBC Olympics reporter Cris Collinsworth, who donated $5,000 to the Republican party of Kentucky in 2004, $1,000 to the candidacy of Republican Rob Portman in 2002, and $500 to the candidacy of Republican Jim Bunning in 1990, is suddenly “a smirking, anti-American, creep“, to at least one NewsBusters writer with too much time on his hands.
Warner Todd Huston, among others, thinks Collinsworth was questioning Kobe Bryant‘s patriotism during an NBC interview last week. After Bryant espoused his love of country, Collinsworth asked if if that was “a ?cool? thing to say, in this day and age? That you love your country, and that you?re fighting for the red, white and blue?”
Huston complains that Collinsworth “asked these questions with an absurd smirk stealing across his face, seeming to think that he was about to join Kobe in cynicism over the evil America with his doubting Thomas questions.” A blog called MsUnderestimated calls Collinsworth a “[t]ypical anti-American tool at NBC.” And one of the many overly suspicious commenters on the otherwise excellent TVNewser blog says “The NBC guy doesn’t believe in patriotism, doesn’t understand the pride of representing the greatest Nation on the Earth.”
Much of the criticism surrounding Collinsworth seems to be solely because he works for NBC, whose MSNBC cable news outlet is the home of Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews. Because those two lean to the left, everyone that works at NBC must hate America. Such is the mindset of people who watch cable news.
As bad as it is now, just imagine if FOX gets the rights to future Olympics. Frank Caliendo might be outed as a hardcore Republican operative, and Olbermann may pull out a scathing special comment on Joe Buck.
