Pushed to the start of the workweek by Tropical Storm Hanna, ratings plunged for the men’s final at the U.S. Open.
Roger Federer‘s straight set win over Andy Murray drew a 2.5/5 overnight rating on CBS Monday, down 41% from a 4.2/8 for Federer’s win over Novak Djokovic last year, which aired on a Sunday.
The 2.5 overnight is the lowest for the men’s final at the U.S. Open since at least 1995.
In several markets, including San Diego, Albany, Buffalo, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, Tallahassee and Cleveland, the match was preempted for local programming. Overall, “more than 90[%] of all of [CBS affiliates] carried” the match.
