On Saturday night, college football won an albeit unfair ratings battle with the World Series.
Saturday Night Football on ABC, featuring Ohio State against Penn State, drew a 6.4 final rating and 10.4 million viewers on ABC Saturday night, up 39% and 40% from a 4.6 with 7.4 million for the same match-up on the comparable night in ’07. The 6.4 rating is the second highest of the season, behind only a 7.0 for Ohio State/USC in September.
Meanwhile, Game 3 of the Phillies/Rays World Series, which was delayed until 10 PM due to rain, drew a 6.1 final rating and 9.8 million viewers on FOX, making it the lowest rated, least watched World Series game in history.
FOX averaged a 2.5 rating from 8-10 PM on Saturday night, when the network aired three episodes of Til’ Death and the World Series pregame. No doubt the lesser competition from FOX helped boost the ratings for Ohio State/Penn State on ABC.
