Billy Packer may not be the only longtime analyst to get the boot in 2008.
Sources tell the New York Daily News that Joe Morgan could be bumped from Sunday Night Baseball as soon as next season, possibly replaced by Rick Sutcliffe. Morgan, who has two years remaining on his contract, “could be shifted to the network’s midweek baseball telecast, where he would work with a new play-by-play partner.”
Additionally, play-by-play man Jon Miller is “not a given” to remain on Sunday Night Baseball.
The Daily News says Morgan has a strained relationship with ESPN colleagues, who “are less than thrilled with the way he prepares for a telecast” and are not fans of “what they call Morgan’s haughty attitude.”
In a statement, ESPN told the Daily News that both Miller and Morgan are expected back in 2009.
