- Jack McCallum: The longtime NBA writer for Sports Illustrated accepted a buyout from the magazine last week. McCallum, in an e-mail to The Big Lead: “Totally my choice, and I feel absolutely positive about it. They want me to be a Special Contributor, so I?ll still be doing some stuff, at least through next year and probably longer.” McCallum had been with SI since 1981.
- Ken Berger: Newsday‘s New York Knicks beat writer has left the publication to become the NBA columnist for CBSSports.com. Berger had been with Newsday since 2000.
- Tiger Woods: General Motors and the golf superstar came to a “mutual agreement” to end their nine-year endorsement deal. The deal, worth approximately $7 million per year, was originally set to expire at the end of 2009, but will instead end one year earlier. GM is one of the big three automakers seeking a bailout from the federal government.
