Of all the times to get laryngitis.
The voice of the Stanley Cup Finals will be silent during the Winter Classic. Lead NBC NHL play-by-play man Mike Emrick will miss the NHL Winter Classic on New Year’s Day due to a bout of laryngitis.
Emrick, who called last year’s Winter Classic as well as the past three Stanley Cup Finals, will be replaced by Dave Strader.
In a statement, Emrick said “Last year’s game was a lifetime memory and I couldn’t wait to call this year’s game at [Wrigley] … I’m extremely disappointed but I know Dave will do a wonderful job.”
