- With Oklahoma Sooners’ quarterback Sam Bradford winning the award, it is little surprise the Heisman Trophy Presentation drew strong ratings in Oklahoma City. The show drew a 19.6 rating in Oklahoma City, easily the best rating for a sporting event in the market last week. While impressive, the 19.6 pales in comparison to the 32.1 rating Sooners’ games averaged during the 2008 season.
- The Suns and Coyotes both drew season-high ratings last week. The Suns’ win over the Knicks last Monday, featuring the return of Mike D’Antoni to Phoenix, drew a 6.8 rating on FS Arizona — the highest Suns rating of the season, and a larger rating locally than Monday Night Football on ESPN. Meanwhile, the Coyotes’ game against the defending champion Red Wings drew a 1.0 rating on FS Arizona last Saturday, the highest rating for a Coyotes game since 2006.
- College basketball’s season debut on CBS saw declining ratings last Saturday. The first game of the network’s doubleheader, an overtime tilt between Memphis and Georgetown, drew a 1.1/3 final rating, down 15% from a 1.3/3 for Michigan/Duke in ’07. The late game, featuring Indiana against Kentucky, drew a 1.3/3 final rating, off 13% from a 1.5/4 for the same matchup last year.*
Comparisons are to CBS’ season-opening doubleheader last year, which occurred on December 8.
