After record-low numbers for the Orange Bowl, FOX saw better results for the Sugar Bowl.
Utah’s victory over Alabama on Friday drew an 8.5/14 overnight rating on FOX, up 2% from an 8.4 for last year’s Fiesta Bowl, which also aired on January 2. Compared to last year’s Sugar Bowl, the 8.5 rating marks an 8% increase over a 7.9 for Georgia/Hawaii.
Through Friday, the three BCS bowls (Rose, Orange and Sugar) have averaged a 9.1 overnight rating on FOX and ABC, down 3% from a 9.4 through the first three BCS bowls in ’08 (Rose, Sugar and Fiesta).
