After a 2008 that featured cratering ratings on an almost weekly basis, the PGA Tour suffered another set of major declines for its first tournament on broadcast in 2009.
The final round of the FBR Open drew a 1.3/3 final rating on CBS last Sunday afternoon, down 43% from a 2.3/5 for final round coverage of the same event last year. The 1.3 is the lowest rating for the final round of the FBR Open in at least eight years, and likely marks one of the lowest ratings ever for the event.
Third round coverage on Saturday averaged a 1.2/3 rating, off 33% from last year’s 1.8. Overall, CBS averaged a 1.3 rating for its two-day coverage of the FBR Open, down 38% from a 2.1 average in ’08.
Final round ratings for the FBR Open have now declined in each of the past five years, from a 3.0 in 2005 to this year’s 1.3.
