FOX has won the sweepstakes to air the Dallas Cowboys’ first home game at their new stadium — but with one caveat.
FOX will televise the Cowboys’ preseason game against the Titans on Friday, August 21, in the team’s first ever game at their new stadium. The game will be the second of three prime time preseason telecasts on FOX.
While its true that the preseason contest will count as the first ever at the new stadium, the real sweepstakes has been over who will televise the Cowboys’ first regular season game at the facility. All four NFL rightsholders have expressed interested in airing the game.
Though this is just speculation, perhaps awarding FOX the preseason game is a consolation prize for having the first regular season game at the new stadium air on one of the NFL’s other TV partners. The Dallas Morning News suggests the game could air in prime time on NBC during Week 2 of the season.
The regular season NFL schedule should be released relatively soon.
