- The 2009 MLB season got off to a decent start on ESPN2. The Braves’ win over the Phillies drew a 2.3 overnight rating, up 53% from a 1.5 for White Sox/Tigers on the comparable date in ’08. Overnight ratings for last year’s opening night game between the Braves and Nationals were unavailable.
- NBC drew a 0.9 overnight rating for the Red Wings’ win over the Wild on Sunday, up 13% from a 0.8 for last year’s comparable Blackhawks/Red Wings tilt. The 0.9 overnight is tied as the lowest of the season for an NHL game on NBC.
- Horse racing’s Santa Anita Derby drew a 1.6/4 overnight rating on NBC Saturday evening, even with last year and up 50% from ’07. The 1.6 overnight helped the Derby improve on its lead-in — third round coverage of the Shell Houston Open — by 7%.
