Preliminary numbers show that Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals was a hit on Friday night.
The Penguins’ Game 7 victory over the Red Wings drew 7.5 million viewers and a 3.0/11 rating among adults 18-49 in prime time Friday night, according to preliminary data. Overnight ratings for Game 7 are unavailable due to the digital transition.
Viewership peaked at an impressive 9 million during the 10 PM hour.
NBC easily won the night in total viewers and the adults 18-49 demo, thanks to Game 7. Four of NBC’s five Stanley Cup Final telecasts helped the network win the night in prime time.
Game 7 appears on pace to finish as the most viewed NHL telecast since at least ’95. Currently, that mark is held by Mighty Ducks/Devils Game 7 in ’03, which drew 7.2 million viewers.
