- After three years of obscurity on NFL Network, the Texas Bowl is moving to ESPN. The ’09 Texas Bowl will air on ESPN New Year’s Eve at 3:30 PM ET. This marks the latest date and earliest start time in the four-year history of the event. Last year’s Texas Bowl was the least viewed of the college football bowls, drawing a mere 186,000 viewers.
- The Arena Football League, which canceled its 2009 season, may need to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in order to return for 2010. The Sports Business Journal reports that the league is $14 million in debt and “would need another $10 million to $12 million in capital to play next year.” The league is also considering “buying … more time” and pushing the start of a potential ’10 season back from March to June.
- Army and Notre Dame will play a football game at the new Yankee Stadium next year. The game, the first football game played on the Yankees’ home field since ’87, will take place on November 20, 2010. No time has been set for the game, which will air nationally on NBC.
