For the second straight week, NASCAR ratings dropped on ABC.
Sunday’s AAA 400 drew a mere 2.7 overnight rating on ABC, down 4% from a 2.8 last year, and down 18% from a 3.3 in ’07. The 2.7 is the second-lowest overnight for a Chase for the Cup race on broadcast, ahead of only a 2.5 for last week’s Sylvania 300.
All three NASCAR races on ABC this season have seen declines in overnight ratings*.
The 2.7 overnight is the lowest ever for the AAA 400 on broadcast television (2001, 2003, 2007-09).
* The Chevy Rock & Roll 400 was down 27% compared to the ’07 race; the ’08 race was postponed due to rain and aired on ESPN.
UPDATED 10/5/09: The ’08 AAA 400 (known as the Camping World RV 400 at the time) drew a 2.8 overnight, not a 3.1.
