For the second straight night, a sporting event in Minnesota attracted an impressive national television audience.
The Twins’ walk-off victory against the Tigers drew a 4.2/8 U.S. rating and 6.5 million viewers on TBS Tuesday evening, up 56% and 57%, respectively, from last year’s White Sox/Twins one-game playoff (2.7/5, 4.2 mil).
Tigers/Twins was also up 68% and 66%, respectively, from Padres/Rockies in ’07 (2.5/4, 4 mil), and up 5% in ratings from Mets/Reds in ’99 (4.0).
To put the numbers in perspective, Tigers/Twins ranks as the 8th-highest rated and 9th most-viewed MLB telecast on TBS since the network began airing postseason games in ’07. Tigers/Twins drew a higher rating than any Division Series telecast on TBS last year.
Tuesday’s game drew a 24.6 rating in Detroit and a 27.1 in Minneapolis-St. Paul.
