Some stories really are too strange to be true.
Veteran TNT NBA play-by-play voice Marv Albert has denied that he was involved in an altercation with the entourage of musician Curtis Jackson, known by the stage name 50 Cent.
Albert and Jackson were both guests on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday night. On Friday, the Los Angeles Times reported that “a sudden scuffle” broke out when Albert arrived, because members of Jackson’s entourage “seemed unfamiliar with [him].”
However, Albert says he was “not even close” to the exchange that took place, which apparently involved a member of Jackson’s entourage and a show security guard. According to the Associated Press, Albert believes that the confrontation took place because “a member of [Jackson’s] party was prevented by show security from using a phone in the room that was supposed to belong to Albert.”
Albert and Jackson “never crossed paths.”
The original Los Angeles Times story was reported on several outlets, from MTV.com to ESPN’s Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption.
