From the no surprise department, NASCAR suffered yet another decline in ratings over the weekend.
Sunday’s Dickies 500 drew a 3.1 overnight rating on ABC, down 6% from a 3.3 for last year’s race, and the lowest overnight in the five-year history of the race. Overnight ratings have declined every single year in the history of the race — dropping 30% from a 4.4 in ’05 to a 3.1 this year.
Should the final rating fall below last year’s 3.7, Sunday’s race would mark the 25th regularly scheduled NASCAR telecast of the season to have a decline in ratings compared to last year.
Despite the relatively low number, the 3.1 overnight for the race is the second-highest of the season for a NASCAR telecast on ABC, behind only a 3.8 for last week’s Amp Energy 500.
