For the third straight year, overnight ratings dropped for the Capital One Bowl.
Friday’s Penn State/LSU matchup drew a 6.9 overnight rating on ABC — a stellar rating for a non-BCS bowl, but down 4% from a 7.2 for last year’s Georgia/Michigan St. game.
Compared to Michigan/Florida in ’08, which drew a 9.9 overnight rating, Penn State/LSU was down 30%.
Despite the declines, the Capital One Bowl dominated its timeslot on Friday, outdrawing the Gator Bowl by 61% and the NHL Winter Classic by 165%.
