The crown jewel of the NHL’s regular season saw a decline in overnight ratings on Friday.
The Flyers/Bruins NHL Winter Classic, from Boston’s Fenway Park, drew a 2.6 overnight rating on NBC New Year’s Day — down 10% from a 2.9 for last year’s Red Wings/Blackhawks game, but even with Penguins/Sabres in ’07.
Despite the decline, the 2.6 is tied as the second-highest for a regular season NHL telecast since ’96.
