Tiger Woods will not rule out that he will return to golf this year, but he does not know when a comeback will take place.
Woods apologized for marital infidelity in a 15-minute statement on Friday morning, which was televised by at least 14 television networks, and streamed live on Hulu.com and TMZ.com.
The statement, called “one of the most remarkable public apologizes ever” by ABC News host George Stephanopoulos, at times touched on the media’s treatment of his wife and children and rumors that he had used performance enhancing drugs.
MSNBC had a panel discussion about the Woods statement. On CNN, Fmr. Yankees PR Director Rick Cerrone called the speech a “PR disaster” that will be “shown in colleges to show how not to conduct yourself.”
The Big Four broadcast networks covered the statement. On ABC, John Berman and ESPN’s Chris Connelly joined hosts Robin Roberts and Stephanopoulos. NBC had golf host Jimmy Roberts and reporter Kerry Sanders, with host Matt Lauer. On CBS, anchor Katie Couric interviewed CBS golf personality David Feherty.
FOX also covered the statement, with Rick Folbaum hosting coverage and FOX Sports anchor Chris Rose providing analysis.
NBC and ABC both ended their special reports at 11:21 AM. CBS stayed with its coverage through 11:22, and FOX ended its coverage at 11:23.
