The Capitals’ first round failure attracted the largest audience for a first round Stanley Cup Playoff game on cable in seven years.
Game 7 of the Canadiens/Capitals series drew 1.2 million viewers on Versus Wednesday night. The 1.2 million viewers is the most ever for a first round Stanley Cup Playoff game on Versus, and the most for any first round game on cable since ’03.
Overall, Versus averaged 595,000 viewers for coverage of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, up 35% from last year (442,000), and the most-viewed first round on cable since ’01 (608,000 on ESPN/ESPN2).
More than half of Versus’ games drew over 500,000 viewers.
Nine of the ten most-viewed first round games in Versus history have taken place this year, including the top four.
