- The Red Wings’ Game 7 win against the Coyotes drew a 16.7 rating on FS Detroit Tuesday night, the third-highest rating ever for any telecast on the network. Red Wings games make up six of the seven highest rated telecasts in FS Detroit history, including the top three. Overall, FS Detroit averaged an 11.5 rating for its five-game coverage of the Red Wings/Coyotes series (two games aired on NBC), up 9% from the network’s first five playoff games last year. - Game 5 of the Spurs/Mavericks series drew an 8.2 rating on KTXA in Dallas, the lowest rating of the series. Keep in mind that previous games were available both locally (KTXA) and nationally (TNT or ESPN). Since Game 1 drew a 13.1, ratings have declined for each successive game of the series. - The April 6 Duke/Butler National Championship Game outdrew the Lakers/Magic NBA Finals by 69% in ratings and 67% in viewership. However, in the African American and Hispanic demographics, the ratings told a different story. Among African Americans, Lakers/Magic drew a 22.8 rating and 4.7 million viewers, topping Duke/Butler (15.4, 3.0 mil) by 48% and 57%, respectively. Meanwhile, among Hispanics, Lakers/Magic drew an 8.6 and 1.8 million, outdrawing Duke/Butler (5.7, 1.0 mil) by 51% and 78%, respectively. The two demographics made up 46% of the NBA Finals audience and 17% of the NCAA audience. (Media Life Magazine)
