Golf ratings may still be up compared to 2008, when Tiger Woods missed the second half of the season, but events continue to trail 2009 — when Woods was frequently in contention.
Final round coverage of the FedEx Cup BMW Championship drew just a 1.6 overnight rating on NBC Sunday, down 39% from Woods’ victory last year (2.6), up 33% from 2008, when Woods did not play (1.2) and down 50% from Woods’ victory in 2007 (3.2).
The 1.6 overnight is the second-lowest for the final round of the BMW Championship (formerly the Western Open) since at least 1998. Overnight ratings prior to 1999 were not available.
This is only the second time in that span that the event has failed to draw at least a 2.0 overnight.
Saturday’s third round action drew a 1.3 overnight, down 44% from last year (2.3), up 18% from 2008 (1.1) and down 50% from 2007 (2.6).
