NBC drew a 2.3 overnight rating for Purdue/Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon, up a whopping 77% from last year’s Nevada/Notre Dame opener (1.3).
However, the game was also down 15% from San Diego/Notre Dame in ’08 (2.7), down 23% from Georgia Tech/Notre Dame in ’07 (3.0) and down 52% from Penn St./Notre Dame in ’06 (4.8).
The 2.3 overnight is the second-lowest for a Notre Dame home opener since at least 1997 (overnights prior to ’98 were not available).
Indianapolis was the top market for Saturday’s game, with a 9.2. Columbus, OH (6.0), Chicago (4.5), Cincinnati (4.5) and Fort Myers, FL (3.9) made up the rest of the top five.
