The first game of the latest Yankees/Twins series put up good numbers for TBS Wednesday night.
The Yankees’ Game 1 win over the Twins drew a 4.3 U.S. rating and 6.914 million viewers on TBS Wednesday night, according to Nielsen fast-nationals.
Game 1 was up 30% in ratings and 39% in viewership from last year’s comparable game (STL/LAD G1: 3.3, 4.974 mil), and up 43% and 56%, respectively, from the comparable game in 2008 (BOS/LAA G1: 3.0, 4.442 mil). Both of those games aired in later timeslots.
Yankees/Twins was the top game of the day and the most-viewed Game 1 of any Division Series ever on cable.
Last year’s Twins/Yankees Game 1 aired in an earlier timeslot and drew an almost identical 4.3 U.S. rating and 6.607 million viewers.
In the Minneapolis-St. Paul market, the game drew a 29.6 rating — up 37% from Twins/Yankees Game 1 last year (21.6). In New York, the game drew a 13.2, down 2% from last year (13.4).
