CBS announced fundamental changes to its CBS College Sports Network on Tuesday, which will no longer focus exclusively on collegiate sports.
The CBS College Sports Network will be renamed CBS Sports Network effective April 4, allowing the network to broaden its focus beyond college sports.
CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus seemed to allude to that broadened focus in a press release announcing the move: “We are excited about extending the CBS Sports brand as we position CBS Sports Network as a destination for all sports fans.”
The newly named network will continue to air “comprehensive college sports coverage,” according to a CBS press release.
College sports had always been the primary focus of CBS College Sports Network, which started as CSTV nearly eight years ago. CBS Corporation acquired CSTV in November 2005.
CBS Sports EVP David Berson will continue to run CBS Sports Network. A former ESPN executive, Berson was named president of CBS College Sports Network in December.
