All three legs of horse racing’s Triple Crown will air on NBC, after the network locked up the rights to the Preakness and Belmont Stakes through 2015.
NBC announced Tuesday that it has reacquired the rights to The Belmont Stakes and renewed its contract with the Preakness, with both deals set to end in 2015.
Previously, The Belmont Stakes aired on ABC from 2006-10. ESPN/ABC announced last week that it would not pursue a renewal.
In addition to the Preakness and Belmont, NBC also owns the rights to the Kentucky Derby through 2015, after extending that deal last October. This marks the first time since 2005 that all three Triple Crown races will air on one network.
New NBC corporate sibling Versus will be contribute to Triple Crown coverage. The cable net will televise programming on the day of all three races, including the Kentucky Oaks and Black Eyed Susan.
