The NCAA Tournament continued its hot start on CBS/Turner, as Sunday’s coverage tied a seventeen-year high.
CBS, TBS, TNT and TruTV combined to average a 7.3 overnight rating for third round coverage of the NCAA Tournament Sunday, up 14% from last year’s comparable coverage on CBS (6.2).
The 7.3 is tied as the highest overnight for the first Sunday of the NCAA Tournament since 1994.
In the afternoon, CBS drew a 4.6 overnight for North Carolina’s win over Washington (12:00-2:30 PM ET), and a 6.9 for Duke’s victory over Michigan (2:45-5:00 PM).
The first evening window (5:00-9:15 PM), featuring games on CBS, TNT and TBS, earned a combined 11.1 overnight, easily the highest of the tournament so far.
In the nightcap (7:30 PM-12:00 AM), coverage across TNT, TBS and TruTV drew a 6.8. The late window was the first of the NCAA Tournament to air entirely on cable.
Through Sunday’s action, the NCAA Tournament is averaging a 6.2 overnight, up 17% from last year.
