Even with a major upset, Sunday’s Notre Dame/Connecticut Final Four game was down from last year’s comparable matchup.
Notre Dame’s upset win over two-time defending champion Connecticut earned a 2.2 overnight rating for ESPN Sunday, down 15% from last year (CONN/BAY: 2.6), but up 16% from 2009 (CONN/STAN: 1.9).
Sunday’s game marked just the second loss for the Huskies since 2008. The team’s previous loss, a December game against Stanford, drew a 1.5 overnight.
Earlier in the night, Texas A&M’s win over Stanford drew a 1.7 overnight, even with last year (STAN/OK: 1.7), but down a tick from 2009 (LOU/OU: 1.8).
Both games outdrew Sunday night’s Giants/Dodgers game on ESPN2 (1.4), as well as and ABC’s Suns/Spurs NBA game (1.5).
