Thursday’s MLB Opening Night game was tied as the lowest rated since 2002.
ESPN earned a 1.5 U.S. rating and 2.325 million viewers for Giants/Dodgers Thursday night, down 25% in ratings and 28% in viewership from last year’s Opening Night game, which aired on a Sunday (NYY/BOS: 2.0, 3.234M, ESPN2).
Keep in mind Giants/Dodgers was an exclusive telecast, while last year’s Yankees/Red Sox game was blacked out in both New York and Boston.
Thursday’s game is tied as the lowest rated Opening Night game on ESPN or ESPN2 since Indians/Angels exactly nine years earlier (1.1, ESPN2).
The Dodgers’ win was outdrawn by both NBA games on TNT Thursday night. For the NBA numbers, click here.
