Ratings and viewership increased for coverage of the College World Series on the ESPN family of networks, though the numbers still trailed 2009 and 2008.
The South Carolina/Florida College World Series championship averaged a 1.4 U.S. rating and 2.233 million viewers on ESPN (two telecasts), up 27% in ratings and 43% in viewership from last year (SC/UCLA: 1.1, 1.558M), but down 22% and 19%, respectively, from 2009 (LSU/TEX: 1.8, 2.762M).
Ratings for this year’s championship series also trailed 2008 (FRES/UGA: 1.5). Keep in mind the 2009 and 2008 championship series went the full three games, while the last two series were two-game sweeps.
Overall, the College World Series as a whole averaged a 0.9 U.S. rating and 1.310 million viewers on ESPN (11 telecasts), up a tick in ratings and 9% in viewership from last year (0.8, 1.198M), but down 31% and 32%, respectively, from 2009 (1.3, 1.928M).
ESPN2’s four telecasts averaged a 0.7 U.S. rating and 999,000 viewers, up 40% in ratings and 26% in viewership from last year (0.5, 794K), and flat in ratings and down 4% in viewership compared to 2009 (0.7, 1.043M).
